Why Join A Fraternity?
Why Join a Fraternity or Sorority?
1. Brotherhood and Sisterhood
Giving a brother a ride to work, helping a sister study for a history exam, giving up a weekend to attend a leadership conference... all of these are examples of what brotherhood and sisterhood mean. Every member of the Greek System here at West Chester is different in some way, but all fraternities and sororities have a common bond that holds them together. Brotherhood and sisterhood are what all the fraternities and sororities here at WCU are founded on. These ideals have kept Greek letter organizations running for well over 200 years across the country and for decades here at West Chester. The bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood are life long and cannot be broken.
2. Service
The entire Greek community here at West Chester donates much of its time, money, and effort to service projects to help those in need. Projects such as Halloween on High Street, Martin Luther King day of service, and canning for Camp Dreamcatcher are some of the projects that the Greek system at West Chester organizes and participates in. Our biggest fundraiser of the year by far is Dance Marathon, which raises thousands of dollars each year to send children affected by AIDS to camp in the summer. Each individual chapter also raises money for different philanthropies throughout the year, which only adds to the rewarding hours of service done by Greeks on the WCU campus.
3. Athletics
Athletics are also a huge part of the Greek community. The race for the coveted IFC Cup includes sports such as football, soccer, basketball, floor hockey, and softball. There is a Greek league for each of these sports and members
take a great deal of pride in representing their chapters in each sport.
4. Academics
The real reason you're here at WCU is to achieve academic success. To promote good study habits most chapters have scholarship programs, in-depth files, and study hours for new members. Each chapter has a minimum GPA that new members are required to meet in order to be initiated, and many have programs to keep your GPA, as well as the entire Greek System's above the all-university average.
5. Social Life
Social events at WCU give fraternity men and sorority women to meet each other. Social events at WCU include date parties, formals, as well as brother and sisterhoods and all service and all-greek activities. Costume parties, pajama
parties, Mardi Gras, and Hawaiian theme parties are also known to take place within the Greek community here at WCU.
So whatever it is that draws you to Greek life initially, remember the bonds and memories you make will last a lifetime!
