Why Should YOU Become a Skull?

Phi Kappa Sigma Is A Unique Experience

Founded at the University of Pennsylvania in 1850, Phi Kappa Sigma has long been an innovative presence in the fraternity world.

By living our values, recognizing the importance of acceptance, and seeking to learn and lead in all aspects of life, Phi Kaps (affectionately known as the Skulls) always strive to succeed and remain, as the maxim emblazoned on our crest states, “Stellis Aequus Durando (Equal to the stars in endurance)”.

College is more than just a degree, it is an experience. Make the most of it and take advantage of all the benefits that Phi Kappa Sigma and Greek Life have to offer.

Top 10 Reasons To Become a Phi Kap

1. WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER

Phi Kappa Sigma understands that you are in college to learn, and we teach our members efficiency and success, especially in the classroom. Tutoring programs and academic files are only the beginning of what we can offer you. Knowing that college isn’t cheap, the Phi Kappa Sigma Foundation awards tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships every year.

2. A PLACE TO CALL HOME

The first year of college can be a challenging time. If you find school a major challenge or are just feeling the pressure of being away from home, the brothers of Phi Kappa Sigma will be there to offer advice, support, and friendship. And of course, we adhere to a strict NO HAZING POLICY!

3. OUTSTANDING LEADERS

Phi Kap cultivates superior leaders. Student Government, Residence Life, and Campus Activities Board are just a few examples of the organizations in which Phi Kaps take roles. Being a Phi Kap can help you get you foot in the door and further develop you into the leader you want to be.

4. HELPING OTHERS

Community service and philanthropy are essential elements of Phi Kappa Sigma. Individual members contribute dozens of hours each year. Undergraduate chapters raise thousands of dollars for philanthropies each year. We introduce our members to large philanthropy projects like Light the Nigh for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Habitat for Humanity, and encourage them to help their communities.

5. LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS

Your undergraduate experience with Phi Kappa Sigma may only last four years, but the friendships that you will make will last a lifetime. With the opportunity to become an alumni volunteer or by joining one of the many alumni groups across the nation, you can enjoy your Phi Kappa Sigma membership long after graduation. We live the motto, “Once a Phi Kap, Always a Phi Kap.”

6. EASY ON YOUR WALLET

As a member of Phi Kappa Sigma you are provided with many honors, rights, and privileges. Membership fees assessed at the chapter level support all your involvement, the activities of your local chapter, and that of the International organization of Phi Kappa Sigma. By pooling resources together to pay for these operations and activities, members are able to reap the best value for their college experience.

7. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Joining a chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma will teach you some very important business and life skills including meeting management, interpersonal communication, event management, and effective delegation and leadership. You will also learn how to create and manage a budget (some chapters have budgets well over $100, 000). You will benefit from the skills you learn as a Phi Kap for a lifetime.

8. EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITIES

Being a Phi Kap will give you access to many great conferences that you can’t get anywhere else. With our “Men of Honor” leadership conference every January, and our “Grand Chapter” biennial convention plus countless regional sessions in your area, you will be able to learn cutting edge leadership techniques that will benefit you long after your undergraduate experience.

9. WINNING TEAMS

Phi Kappa Sigma recognizes the benefits of athletics in relation to team building, leadership, and promoting healthy competition. These lessons can be carried through life. Members are involved in a wide variety of Intramural collegiate sports. Joining can give you an instant opportunity to jump right in and compete. From floor hockey, to football, to events like tug-of-war and the human pyramid during Greek Week, chances are Phi Kaps have a competitive team on your campus.

10. GET CONNECTED

Traveling across North America affords numerous opportunities to visit chapters, meet alumni, and experience all that our country has to offer. Whether it’s meeting new friends or working with over 400,000 alumni, Phi Kappa Sigma is a great way to build relationships, get an internship, or land that first big job! Fell free to call on our professional headquarters staff at any time. We’re here to serve you.

Members of Phi Kappa Sigma, focus on a lifelong membership. Brothers work hard to create the lasting friendships that make being a brother a truly rewarding experience before and after graduation. Over 60,000 men have shared in this brotherhood at more than 70 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Phi Kappa Sigma currently has numerous alumni active in our community as well as our Chapter.

The Phi Kappa Sigma National Office offers a career network to help recent and older members contact other Skulls in a specific industry or work area. In addition, our National Office has a job search program to aid fellow Skulls in their job search as an undergraduate and after graduation. We believe very strongly in a mature orientation program for those who wish to become members of our fraternity.

We also believe in instilling a sense of pride, moral obligation, and financial stability in our affiliates. Our rush and pledge programs are tailored to build leaders and establish a sense of pride in one's self and his brotherhood. One of the main advantages of Phi Kappa Sigma is the diversity of its membership. We currently have actives from several states and countries. By joining Phi Kappa Sigma, you will have a chance to become involved on campus as well as in the community. Involvement in campus activities is an integral part of our chapter.

Phi Kappa Sigma will form friendships and memories which will well outlast your college years. It will forever provide a home to return to as an alumni, and a brotherhood that can never be replaced.

Phi Kap Mottos

“Stellis Aequus Durando” is emblazoned on our crest and translates to “equal to the stars in endurance.” It represents our drive and motivation to succeed in life and as men. Our endurance is immeasurable as we will never quit loving or working our fraternity and our fellow brothers.

“Brotherhood is more than Skin Deep” emphasizes the depth of brotherhood. The strength of our relationships with our brothers is not bound by physical limits. It is defined by something below the surface, a deeper and stronger commitment.

“Once a Phi Kap, Always a Phi Kap” stresses the permanence of our commitment and the bond to the fraternity. It is a lifelong commitment and even in death we shall remain Phi Kaps.

The Phi Kap Experience

Joining Phi Kappa Sigma is a great way to experience all that college has to offer. It is a fast track to involvement on your campus and in your community. Plus it secures you in a lifelong bond with undergraduates as well as alumni.
